Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory was of discovering an attic piano and being awed by the sounds it would make. Jan Oystein Aksnes and May-Britt Aksnes encouraged Aurora to take up music, not for work or as just a pastime, but in order to grow. She began writing songs of her own. In addition to Bjork, she cites Leonard Cohen as an influence. She began performing their songs in public after her mother said they might help others not gain fame through her work but to make the people around them understand their own importance and how they can affect the world. When she began playing the piano, she was just 6 years old and started writing songs when she was nine. She didn't tell her family about it until she turned 14. She never had a desire to become Aurora. Aurora claims she loves making music. To her, music is the most effective way to convey anything.
